What the dMAT actually is

The facts below come from the organisers, g.a.s.t. and APS India. Always confirm dates, centres and rules on the official sites, d-mat.de and aps-india.de/dmat, before you register.

From zero to test day

  1. Find your level. A 12-item quick mixed set, untimed, every answer explained the moment you commit. Ten minutes, no judgement.
  2. Learn each mechanism. Practice modules for every task family, banded A → B → C from foundations to exam-ready, with a worked note on every item.
  3. Sit the blocks. Any Core section on its own as a 25-minute exam block — the pace of the real subtests, so the clock stops being a surprise.
  4. Sit the papers. Full mocks against the clock with auto-submit, then a review of every item you missed and why.
  5. Close the gaps. Missed and saved items come back as drills until they stop being missed. Then sit another paper, and watch the score move.

Every step exists to make the next one easier. That is what “no tension” means: you always know exactly what to do next, and you can see it working.

The four task families

Figure sequences

Four observed matrices resolve to a paired fifth and sixth; six A–F alternatives, drawn exactly as printed.

Mathematical equations

Simultaneous constraints over integer unknowns — elimination beats guessing.

The same twenty facts circulate in the app’s footer while you study — narrowed to the family of the item in front of you. Each one is meant to change what you do next.

Figure sequences

  1. Every figure item shows four matrices and asks for the next two at once. An option is right only if both Matrix 5 and Matrix 6 follow the rule — half-right is wrong.
  2. There are six options, A to F, and the printed papers sometimes make two of them look nearly identical. Compare cell by cell, never by overall impression.
  3. Rules act per shape. Track each glyph’s position, rotation, fill and colour on its own, project each one forward, and only then look at the options.
  4. A hollow figure’s whole identity is its outline colour; a filled figure’s is its fill. Colour rules change between papers, so read the item in front of you, not the last one.
  5. Figure sequences open every mock — questions 1 to 20. A calm, methodical start here sets the pace for the other 100 items.

Mathematical equations

  1. Each system gives simultaneous constraints over integer unknowns, and every option is a complete set of values. Test a candidate against every equation, not just the first.
  2. Elimination beats solving. Pick the equation that is quickest to check, substitute each option into it, and discard — usually only one survives.
  3. Wrong options are built to satisfy most of the equations and break exactly one. The equation you skipped is the one that would have caught it.
  4. No notes are allowed anywhere in the exam — every substitution happens in your head. Practise the way you will sit: no pen, no scratch paper. Every unknown is a whole number from 1 to 20.
  5. A 25-minute block holds 20 systems: 75 seconds each. Spend the first 15 choosing which equation to check first — that choice decides the other 60.

Latin squares

  1. The exam’s grids are 5×5 with the letters A to E; our practice bank also carries 4×4 warm-ups. Read the size and the letter row off the grid in front of you — never assume.
  2. Each letter appears exactly once per row and once per column. Any letter already in the target’s row or column is eliminated before you think.
  3. Only one cell is marked ?, but the answer often lives two steps away: fill the neighbours the rules force first, then the target falls out.
  4. Start from the row or column with the most letters already placed — it has the fewest possibilities, so it resolves fastest.
  5. Easy grids need one inference; hard ones chain several. Practise naming the chain out loud — “row 2 forces C, so column 4 forces A” — until it is automatic.

General Academic Module

  1. In our papers GAM is half the sitting: twelve short academic sources with five linked questions each, numbered 61 to 120. Sixty items decide as much as the three Core sections together.
  2. The four families are Hydrostatics, Optimal Order Quantity, Research Strategies and Vector Calculations. Each has its own vocabulary — learn what a source measures before you read its questions.
  3. Questions in a pack build on one another. Answer them in order and reuse the quantity or definition you established two questions earlier.
  4. Every GAM item has four options, A to D, and the passage is the whole source. If an option needs a fact the passage never gives, it is a distractor.
  5. Read a source for its numbers and definitions first, its prose second. The five questions almost always turn on a value, a unit or a stated condition.

dMAT.practice, explained

What is the dMAT?
The digital Master Test (dMAT) is an academic aptitude test developed by German universities with g.a.s.t., the body behind TestDaF and TestAS. From the Summer Semester 2027 intake, Indian graduates in engineering, commerce, economics, business and management fields who apply to German Master’s programmes sit it as part of their APS India verification. It has a Core Module — figure sequences (20 items, 25 minutes), mathematical equations (20 items, 25 minutes) and Latin squares (20 items, 25 minutes) — plus a 90-minute General Academic Module of short academic texts with four-option questions, is sat in English at test centres in India, and is scored from 0 to 200 with no pass mark.
Is dMAT.practice official?
No. dMAT.practice is an independent study aid from NinjaMinds Software Solutions. It is not an official training document and has no connection to g.a.s.t., APS India, the DAAD or any university. For registration, dates and rules, use the official sites d-mat.de and aps-india.de/dmat.
How do the mock tests work?
Each of our mock papers is 120 items — 20 figure sequences, 20 equation systems, 20 Latin squares and 60 General Academic Module questions — sat timed section by section exactly as the exam is — 25 minutes for each Core subtest, 90 for the General Academic Module, 165 in all — with auto-submit and scored on submission with a worked note for every item. Any Core section can also be sat alone as a 25-minute block, which is the pace of the real subtests.
Are the mocks harder than the real dMAT?
Some are, on purpose. The papers run in tiers — Standard, Medium, Hard and Very hard — and the top tiers are set a notch above the real test, so that the sitting itself feels easier. The clock is always the exam’s own.
Where do the questions come from?
They are original items, designed with the official sample tasks and the published structure in mind — 2,700+ in all — and not copied from the dMAT or from g.a.s.t.’s materials. We check every item and its worked note, but we do not guarantee the material is free of errors; anything under review is withheld.
What information do you collect?
Your email address, through Sign in with Google — nothing else. No password, no form; it is your login and your receipt, and you can delete your account at any time (which ends access at once, without refund). Payment happens in Razorpay’s own window, so card and UPI details never reach us, and your progress stays in your browser.
What does access cost?
₹799, paid once through Razorpay, for 12 months of access to the whole bank — and everything added to it in that time is included. No subscription. Because the content opens the moment you pay, purchases are not refundable except in the cases set out in the refund policy.
